Let’s talk tutoring – it is a topic that is widely discussed in the Ryde District Mums chat group, and with good reason. Tutoring is not just for kids who are behind or those who are gifted. Tutoring is a great option for all kids whether it’s to extend those hungry for more or to encourage a passion for learning. It’s also great for building confidence and reinforcing what kids are learning at school. NumberWorks’nWords Epping offers a tailored approach to each child that walks through their doors.

Tried and Tested by Us

We first met Adam and Ash, local mum & dad duo and owners of NumberWorks’nWords Epping, in mid-2020. They had just opened their doors when we ventured in for a trial. Years later my daughter is still attending! Here is a trip down memory lane with photos from 2020, 2021 (year of the masks!!), 2022 and 2023.

About NumberWorks’nWords Epping

NumberWorks’nWords Epping offers both maths and English tutoring. Your child can do both subjects or just one. Classes are run after school Monday to Friday and they also offer fun and educational school holiday programs! Your child’s plan is based on the school curriculum but if you would like a certain topic bought forward or focused on, simply let Adam or Ash know.

How does it work?

Upon meeting your child, Adam or Ash will undertake a free assessment and then settle you into a trial class. This allows them to work out where your child is best placed and to talk to you about a tailored game plan moving forward. They will also discuss your goals for your child and answer any questions you have.

From there a tutor will be assigned to your child, kids are given their own folders and books to do the work and lessons are software assisted, which keeps your child engaged, with clever tools for the tutor to teach with. Tutors will keep comprehensive notes for each lesson that Adam or Ash will use when they check in with you each term – once at the start of each to share your child’s goals and once mid-term for a parent interview to discuss progress and current needs for your child.

As for the program, variety is key. Your child will work on two to three carefully selected focus each lesson which not only keep things interesting but also ensures that learning is specific to your child’s needs.

Regular Tests

NumberWorks’nWords believe in regular testing with the aim of improving children’s confidence in test environments. It helps to reduce ‘test anxiety’ and gets children used to working under a bit of pressure. At the start of every lesson, children do a “fast facts” test and at the end of each topic, children will undertake a quick test to ensure their knowledge is sufficient to move on. They are low-pressure tests but still simulate the testing environment.

Fun

The key takeout from being a NumberWorks’nWords Epping customer is that the kids have fun – every achievement is celebrated, and confidence is built through authentic praise and encouragement. Learning is fun, with 1-minute brain-break games that children can play between each module, which helps with increase their focus and memory retention.

All successes are celebrated, tutors all cheer when kids pass topic and level tests, and they clap and really support each other. Kids also get certificates as they reach milestones and sometimes even a Freddo!

FREE Assessment

It’s a great time to start now, especially if your child is starting Year 3, 5, 7, or 9 next year and facing the NAPLAN test in March. Book the FREE assessment and chat with Adam and Ash about a game plan for the rest of 2023 and into 2024.

You can contact Adam and Ash to book a FREE assessment or ask some questions here.
