Katie Mullens – Liberal for Parramatta

What is your name, political party and electorate?

I’m Katie Mullens and I’m the Liberal Candidate for the state seat of Parramatta.

Tell us about your background both personally and professionally

I grew up in a small country town west of Kempsey, and have lived in Parramatta most of my adult life after moving here to study law at Western Sydney University. I worked as a receptionist and waitressed in local cafes whilst studying. Since graduating, I have worked as a lawyer at a North Parramatta firm, helping local residents, families, and small businesses. Working to help the local community has been really inspiring, and helped motivate me to put my hand up as the Liberal candidate for Parramatta.

What are some things you love about your electorate?

This could take a while! One of the greatest things about Parramatta is our community.  It Is warm and welcoming, embracing so many who come here from all over Australia and the world.

This place has so much to offer from beautiful parks to delicious food, from museums and galleries to (almost) champion sporting teams.

What do you believe are the 3 main issues affecting your electorate and why?

The top issue that comes up most of the time when I’m out in the community is people’s worries about their economic security. Increasing rates, inflation and global economic uncertainty is having an impact on our businesses and family budgets. This is why I think one of the most important challenges facing the Government is steering our economy and keeping it strong. The Perrottet Government’s strong economic management and long-term plan will help ease the pressure on household budgets and deliver investment in the infrastructure and services for our community, to keep NSW moving forward.

Our community is spending a lot of time on the road, and it’s important that we keep investing to ensure that people can spend less time on the road and more time doing things they love.

Additionally, the investment in our public transport is really important. As we roll out the Parramatta Light Rail and continue to invest in train and bus services, we will stay ahead of the growing community needs.

What are the 3 key things you plan to achieve if elected?

Geoff Lee and the Liberal government have delivered so much for Parramatta since 2011. We have seen billions of dollars invested into our community, and I want to build on Geoff’s legacy and continue to deliver for the needs of this community.

I want to ensure Parramatta Light Rail stage 1 is completed and we start construction of Parramatta Light Rail stage 2.

I want to drive further cost of living relief for families and small businesses like the Back to School vouchers and the Energy Bill Saver program that can save households $250 on their energy bills.

I also want to see the local school upgrades continue to get delivered, as well as more parks and cycleways, and finally the Powerhouse Parramatta Museum finished.

What about your long term vision for the area?

If you think back to 2010, Parramatta was not as full of life as it is today. I want to ensure that we continue moving forward, and do not stall. I want to see more jobs created right here in Parramatta, more schools upgraded, and transport projects delivered. Only the Perrottet Government can continue delivering the services, infrastructure and support for families and businesses as part of our long-term economic plan to keep Parramatta moving forward.
