Do You Need to Book a Park for a Birthday Party?

It depends on the park and exactly what you’re planning.

At many parks, ordinary picnic tables are first come, first served, so getting there early is definitely worthwhile for a weekend party.

Some larger reserves also have gazebos, pavilions or designated areas that can be booked. If having a guaranteed space is important, check with the relevant council or park authority before sending out the invitations.

It’s also worth checking the rules if you’re planning to bring in additional equipment such as a jumping castle, marquee, entertainer or food truck, or if you’re expecting a particularly large group.

A Few Park Party Tips

  • Get there early if tables can’t be booked – popular ones go quickly on weekends.
  • Bring a picnic rug or two even if there are tables.
  • Check how far the toilets are from the playground – “has toilets” can sometimes mean a short walk away!
  • For water-play parties, remind everyone to bring swimmers, towels and a change of clothes.
  • Consider the ages of siblings coming along too – a park with equipment for several age groups can make life much easier.
  • Check council requirements before bringing large party equipment or structures.
