Are you part or have you been part of a political party? If so, which one?

Liberal Party of Australia (NSW Division)

Tell us a bit about you and your team?  What’s your day job?

Sarkis is a former Deputy Mayor and brings with him experience and a long term commitment to the community. Shweta, is a local mum of 2 primary-aged kids and works full time in the pharmaceutical industry. She understands the everyday juggle of most parents and the important role council plays in enabling the local community to be a safe and friendly place to raise young kids and a family. Sustainable living and building a future that holds a promise for the next generation is a key passion for Shweta. Together, they bring experience from diverse backgrounds that will work for the community and families that have chosen Ryde as their home.

What are some things you love about living in the area?

The highlights for both Sarkis and Shweta is the wonderful community of Ryde. As a team of passionate individuals who believe in the diversity and multiculturalism of Ryde, they know that it is what makes Ryde such a wonderful place to live in. Ryde is a melting pot of a local suburban feel but with global multinational companies at her doorstep. With rivers, parks, sporting grounds and national parks, Ryde has developed world-class health, education and research facilities that makes it the jewel crown of Sydney.

What do you believe to be the 3 main issues affecting our community?

We think there are three key challenges that are impacting our community:

  1. Over-development of housing and its impact on amenities, environment and mobility.
  2. Equal access to economic opportunities for all.
  3. Sustainable use of human, natural and financial capital.

What are the 3 key things you plan to achieve?

1. Ban Council’s cash deals with developers

2. Establish Sustainable Development Goals to make Ryde a future focused city

3. Making Ryde a clean, green society with a focus on recycling/upcycling.

What about your long term vision for the area?

Ryde is a young, diverse multicultural society. Chosen by families, small business owners and professionals as their home, we need a Council that understands the dynamics of juggling multiple priorities. The core of the Council is to ensure every service is maintained to a high standard and a need for sustainable living at its core that leaves this place in good hands for the next generation. Restricting over-development and ensuring public amenities continue to be the focus, without increasing rates and abandoning core sustainability principles.

Other Comments

Sarkis and Shweta want to build Ryde into the city that their kids and the future generation will continue to choose as their home. Now is the time to elect your representatives that portray the world you see. As a multicultural team; Sarkis and Shweta would like to represent the community to bring hope to a generation that can view public office as a choice where their voices are heard. In the next term, Sarkis and Shweta hope to get Council as a true representation of the community they stand for and bring diversity of thought and action in its engagement with the community. Through focused action that ensures sustainability in its decisions, Council will be able to lead with integrity and work with State and Federal members to bring Sustainable Development Goals for Ryde – by voting 1 Liberal, you too can be part of building a better future.
