Who are your supporting candidates?

Warwick Benson, Paul Whyte

Are you part or have you been part of a political party? If so, which one?

Yes. The Greens

Tell us a bit about you and your team. What’s your day job?

I am Professor Emeritus at the University of Sydney and a medical specialist (Endocrinologist) at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. My partner Kate and I have five adult children. My academic research focuses on the impact of nutrition on health and is based at the Charles Perkins Centre. My clinical and patient focus is prevention and treatment of bone and mineral diseases (chiefly osteoporosis). I am a former Dean of Medicine at the University and have a track record of policy development and implementation as well as budget management. In my spare time I write poetry with an inner-city group and I am learning French in the hope of being more proficient when we next visit our son and daughter-in-law (economists working in Paris). Warwick is a haematologist and former Head of Haematology at Westmead. He has been a member of the local pastoral council in one of the Hunters Hill Christian communities. Paul is a Chemical Engineer and the owner/chief executive of a medium-sized business in Sydney. He is a member of international committees in Public Health. We are conscious of being a team of three men and no women but seek and willingly receive regular advice from our colleagues, partners and friends.

What are some things you love about living in the area?

I love the natural environment, leafy gardens, and beautiful harbour foreshore. I love the sense of community and enjoy both the indoors and outdoors. I am a keen bushwalker. I am also a keen kayaker and enjoy both the Lane Cove and Parramatta rivers near where we live.

What do you believe to be the 3 main issues affecting our community?

  1. Climate Action Today
  2. Sustainability (Environmental protection and renewal, Economic, Development & Planning, Education, Health)
  3. Community Access (Housing, Green Spaces, Harbour Foreshore)

What are the 3 key things you plan to achieve?

1. Immediate council action in response to its declaration of a climate emergency (75% emissions reductions on Council Operations by 2030)

2. Improved quality of the bushland reserves and improved connectivity for the passage across the city of native animals and birds

3. Responsible development and enhanced community access to reserves and the harbour foreshore

What is your long term vision for the area?

A healthy, safe and environmentally and economically sustainable community in which career pathways are available for everyone, and in which humans and native plant and animal species live in harmony together.

Other Comments

I like solving problems and helping people to achieve their potential. I am concerned that housing is so expensive in Sydney and will support the increased provision of affordable housing. I am also concerned that parts of the city do not yet have adequate childcare. I am particularly interested to hear views on the current provision of affordable childcare in Hunters Hill.
