Wow, life is so busy again! There’s loads on and May is no expectation. Here’s our guide to some of the biggest upcoming local events you won’t want to miss.

Pyrmont Festival

When: 6-7 May, 11am – 5pm

Where: Piramma Park

Details: The Pyrmont Festival celebrates food, wine, and art in a 2-Day. This year celebrates the 11th Pyrmont Festival. They welcome all parts of the community to be part of this important festival.

Fire & Rescue NSW Open Day

When: Saturday 13th May, 10am – 2pm

Where: Your local fire station

Details: Come behind the scenes and gain a glimpse into Australia’s busiest fire and rescue service.

From fires, chemical spills, car crashes, natural disasters and humanitarian relief across the state, our firefighters are prepared for anything.

Open Day is your chance to meet our firefighters, see trucks in action, check out their equipment and find out more about what they do.

Visitors can also speak to firefighters first-hand about fire safety in the home, including how to install and maintain smoke alarms and how to develop a home escape plan to ensure they can quickly and safely escape a fire.

The Mother’s Day Classic

When: Sunday 14 May, 6am to 1pm.

Where: The Domain

Details: Celebrate Mother’s Day and raise funds for breast cancer research. Choose to walk or run either the 4.8km or 7.5km course. The main Sydney event will start from the Domain. The Western Sydney event will start at Lizard Log, Western Sydney Parklands, Abbotsbury with slightly different course lengths on offer.

Ryde Wharf Markets

When:

Where: Anderson Park, Meadowbank

Details: The Ryde Wharf Market, run by Cambridge Markets, is on the 2nd AND 4th Sunday of every month from 9am-2pm at Anderson Park, Meadowbank. You’ll find dozens of stalls covering:
? fresh baked breads and treats

? Fresh flowers
? fruit & veg
? delicious desserts
? wines and spirits
? international food stalls ranging from gozleme to dumplings
☕️ 2 coffee carts
? women’s clothing and accessories + jewellery

We recommend parking on Waterview St Putney and walking via the underpass.

You’re welcome to bring your 4 legged friends as long as they are on a lead – they would probably love to browse the pet stalls!

Glow at Sydney Zoo

West Ryde Mini Trains

When: Saturday 20th May 1.30-4pm

Where: Corner of Anthony Rd and Betts St behind West Ryde Shopping Centre

Details: Great fun for young and old, the West Ryde Mini Trains are a local treasure. Held on every 3rd Saturday of the month from 1.30-4pm, the Sydney Live Steam Locomotive Society is still located at the original site where it formed in 1948 – on the corner of Anthony Rd and Betts St behind West Ryde shopping centre.

Here you’ll find you can find 3 miniature train tracks with ride-on trains hauled by miniature steam locomotives. The park grounds are a popular location for children’s birthday parties or small group afternoon gatherings.

Wentworth Point Markets

Where: Wentworth Place, Wentworth Point

Details: Wentworth Place and the town square will come alive from 9am-2pm with monthly markets thanks to Cambridge Markets!

There is so much on offer – you will be spoilt for choice. Enjoy delicious international food stalls to food products, plants and homewares, pet accessories (bring your furry friends along) barista made coffee (hooray), activities for the kids, cake, breads, beautiful things for the home, and, of course, delicious brunch and lunch stalls. There is live music and lots of tables and chairs so you can sit back and relax.

Come along to this very popular and friendly market and enjoy the outdoors. Free parking for 3 hours, entry is 1 Burroway Rd Wentworth Point or why not catch the Ferry and get off at Sydney Olympic Park Wharf.

A Day Out With Thomas

When: 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28 May 2023

Where: NSW Rail Museum in Thirlmere

Details: Direct from the Island of Sodor, Thomas & Friends return to the NSW Rail Museum for five days of family fun! There are two types of tickets: Museum Only and Museum plus Train Ride.

‘Museum Only’ ticket:

  • Meet Thomas – climb into the driver’s cab and toot his whistle
  • Take a short ride with Toby the Railmotor
  • Meet Sir Topham Hatt alongside Thomas
  • Unlimited mini-train rides
  • Unlimited jumping castle rides – three castles to cater for different age groups

Cork and Fork

When: Sunday, 21 May, 10am – 4pm

Where: Kissing Point Park, Putney

Details: Cork & Fork by the Riverside showcase’s boutique wine from the Mudgee and Hunter Valley regions, locally made spirits, craft beer, food trucks, gourmet food products, bespoke items, and great music in a picturesque location next to the Parramatta River.

To taste test all of the wonderful wine, brewery, and distillery suppliers you will need to purchase your own branded Cork and Fork wine glass on the day for $10. Glasses will be on sale at ticket booths (cashless payment only).

There will be plenty on offer for the whole family to enjoy including kids’ workshops, face painting and rides.

Vivid Sydney

Where: Sydney wide

Details: Now in its 13th year, the annual celebration of light, music, ideas, and food technology and creativity returns to Sydney with an even bigger line-up than in previous years. Inspired by the OG creator, Mother Nature, this year’s theme is ‘Vivid Sydney, Naturally’. That theme will be reflected across all 300 activations and events that make up the 23-day (and night) program, from May 26 to June 17.
