Moode – the New Complete Prenatal Vitamin

New to the prenatal vitamin market, Moode is an Australian-made prenatal vitamin with bioavailable ingredients (more on that below!).

It can be so overwhelming to select a prenatal vitamin when planning for a pregnancy or when you first fall pregnant. Wouldn’t it be nice if the vitamin was small and easy to swallow, as well as odourless with no aftertaste so as to not cause nausea? That’s where Moode comes in.

Moode prenatal vitamins are nutritionally formulated and scientifically backed to maintain holistic reproductive health. Using bioavailable ingredients, the vitamins are more effective as the ingredients absorb more easily and quickly without having to take higher doses. They’re naturally vegan whilst also being gluten, dairy and soy-free. The key feature of the Moode prenatal vitamin is that it is formulated to support a healthy pregnancy including healthy foetal development, healthy foetal Central Nervous System and brain development, overall maternal health as well as placenta health and growth.

Let’s Talk Folate

Did you know that consuming folate during pregnancy has been linked to preventing the development of hyperhomocysteinemia otherwise known as a condition which can influence developmental abnormalities, particularly neural tube defects in the developing foetus? As the neural tube closure occurs 4 weeks from conception, it is one of the many reasons why it’s recommended to take prenatal 3 months prior to trying to conceive.

We all need folate for lots of important processes in the body including red blood cell production, growth and repair of cells, and DNA replication – all processes that are front and centre when it comes to growing a foetus. Because neural tube development is happening in the very early stages of pregnancy, preconception care with an appropriate form of folate supplementation is all the more crucial.

You might have noticed that different supplements mention different types of folate ingredients such as folate, folic acid and folonic acid. So what is the difference between these 3 types and which is the most essential to have during pregnancy?

    • Folate is the naturally occurring form of the nutrient which is found in nature.
    • Folic acid is the synthetic form.
    • Folinic acid is the activated form of folate. Activation is a conversion process which takes the burden off the body to process folic acid through the liver, providing an easily absorbed synthetic version of folate instead.
  • 60% of people have a MTHFR genetic defect which means they are unable to properly break down folate in foods or folic acid in supplements. They would require folinic acid (what Moode contains) which is bioavailable so easier for the body to process and metabolise.

Ingredients in Moode

Each capsule includes 17 key ingredients in the highest quality and bioavailable form.

Some key ingredients are:

  • Folinic acid, for its increased bioavailability. ‘Bioactive’ or ‘activated’ folate is a readily absorbable form of the nutrient – the closest synthetic version of Folate to what’s naturally found in food. Because it’s so familiar to our bodies, we can metabolise it fast, raising maternal folate levels quickly.
  • 300mg of Choline in every dose. Choline plays an important role in healthy fetal development and healthy fetal Central Nervous System and brain development, and see it as an essential ingredient in prenatal vitamins.
  • Iron-free formulation, avoiding gastrointestinal upset
  • Tasteless and odourless to not cause nausea

Moode recommends that you take their prenatal vitamins for 3+ months before conception, and right throughout pregnancy, postpartum and breastfeeding.

You can find the full ingredients glossary here.
