What is your name, political party and electorate?

Hi! I’m Milo Kuga, Labor’s candidate in the Central Ward of the City of Ryde. I’m proud to run alongside Lyndal Howison in Central Ward and Bernard Purcell who is our mayoral candidate for the City of Ryde.

Are you running for Mayor and if so, why?

I’m not running for mayor as I’m supporting Bernard Purcell for Mayor. I firmly believe Bernard is the Mayor that Ryde has to have! He’s always cared deeply about our community and doing what’s best for all of us in Ryde.

Tell us about your background both personally and professionally

I am a lawyer who represents doctors in our state’s hospital system and various health services. I used to represent other frontline workers including firefighters, emergency services officers and other essential public sector workers. I worked in the emergency services sector myself before the law and prior to that my career was in banking and finance.

I am of East European descent and my parents were first-generation migrants to Australia. I grew up in the Ryde area and have gained a lot of positive experiences from volunteering in various community organisations.

What are some things you love about your electorate?

I love our multicultural community, accessibility to the greater Sydney area and the open green spaces, especially by the Parramatta River and at Macquarie Park.

What do you believe are the 3 main issues affecting your electorate and why?

  1. The lack of affordable housing with facilities to match for young families, essential workers and others in the our area as a result of previous poor planning decisions by the Liberals,
  2. The City of Ryde lacking key infrastructure such as its own Town Hall, sufficient car parking in Eastwood and other basics throughout Ryde as a result of 3 years of inaction by the Liberal-led council, and
  3. The lack of long-term planning for the future of Ryde as a result of the current Liberal-led council.

What are the 3 key things you plan to achieve if elected?

  1. Bringing accessible and accountable local government back to the City of Ryde,
  2. Building a new car park and community space for Eastwood as well completing master plans for West Ryde and Cox’s Road, North Ryde, and
  3. Investing in more recycling facilities and public EV charging points.

What about your long term vision for the area?

Making the City of Ryde the best and most liveable place to raise a family in Sydney.
