Karen Alden Waud  – Independent – West Ward

Tell us about your background both personally and professionally

My community involvement began in the 1980s when I took on the role of President of the West Ryde Rovers Sports and Social Club, a position I proudly hold to this day. My engagement with the council has included participation in the Sports Advisory and various other advisory roles. Currently, I am a disability support worker at All About Caring, where I enjoy helping and supporting others. My dedication to grassroots sports in the Ryde area was recognised with the awarding of an OAM in 2022, an honour I cherish and strive to uphold.

What are some things you love about your electorate?

Born in Ryde Hospital, I have spent my entire life in Ryde, actively engaging with the community throughout the years. My education journey included St Michaels Meadowbank School, OLMC Epping, and Marsden High School. I firmly believe our community is one of the best our parks our recreational facilities, waterways, our schools as well as our cafes just a great place to live and lastly but not least I love our city diversity

What do you believe are the 3 main issues affecting your electorate and why?

  • Cost of Living Relief – Reduction in rates and better use of council resources to ease financial pressure.
  •  Community voice our priority is a council that listens and responds to your needs.
  • Stop Councils Waste – Your money should be spent wisely

What are the 3 key things you plan to achieve if elected?

  • Achieve a reduction in rates
  • Better facilities for people with disabilities
  • Improve Council Communication an independent voice to our community

What about your long term vision for the area?

Remove the party politics from decision-making and listen to the people of Ryde.
