What is your name, political party and electorate?

Councillor Daniel Han, Ryde Liberals, City of Ryde – Central Ward

Tell us about your background both personally and professionally

I’m a proud dad of a two-year-old daughter. I moved from Korea 30 years ago as a young boy.
After 8 years of working as a pharmacist in Ryde, I found my passion in teaching and worked as a Science teacher at Ryde Secondary College for the past 13 years.

What are some things you love about your electorate?

I’m proud of Ryde because I believe we are the most culturally diverse and harmonious electorate in NSW. It is a miniature version of the world. We have a high percentage of professionals and young families in the area. It is one of the fastest growing areas with abundance of employment and educational opportunities for families.

Our city boasts a world-class university, excellent public transport options, and stunning natural beauty with a national park to the north and a river to the south, making it one of Australia’s most pleasant places to live.

What do you believe are the 3 main issues affecting your electorate and why?

1. Lack of Community Facilities and Infrastructure – We need more community space to gather and perform and the car parks to match and support the fast-growing population and demand for families.

2. Over-Development – We are at risk of losing open space to developers without appropriate infrastructure.

3. Cost of Living – the prices of everything have been going up including the Council’s expenses to manage the city. It’s essential to make smart financial decisions to avoid burdening households with unfunded promises.

What are the 3 key things you plan to achieve if elected?

If re-elected, we will address the issues above with the following plans:

1. Community Facilities and Infrastructure:

  • Build Eastwood’s new car park
  • Open City of Ryde’s first 24/7 library.
  • Provide more shade for playgrounds and increase

2. Over-Development:

  • Save TG Millner Oval from development and other open spaces
  • Resist against the State’s overwhelming housing reform

3. Cost of Living:

  • Continue to keep Ryde council rates low to address cost of living.
  • Continue meet your neighbour small grants

What about your long term vision for the area?

As a dedicated teacher and father, I’m passionate about supporting families and educational opportunities. I want to ensure that the City of Ryde keeps Council rates low while continuing to be a voice in making our city a harmonious and desirable place to live.
