What is your name, political party and electorate?

Jayne Christian, Community Champions, Rosehill Ward Parramatta

Tell us about your background both personally and professionally

I am a Baramadagal woman of the Dharug speaking peoples, with ancestral and ongoing connection to the Parramatta area. I worked in the legal sector including Federal and State Government, the Courts and private practice over 18 years and I now work for myself providing consultation services and working on public art.

What are some things you love about your electorate?

1. The generosity and diversity of people across the electorate.

2. We are surrounded by the natural beauty of the waterways.

3. The access to public spaces for learning.

What do you believe are the 3 main issues affecting your electorate and why?

1. adequate infrastructure growth proportionate to projected housing development.

2. need for increased tree canopy to mitigate increasing climate.

3. need to improve traffic congestion and safety

What are the 3 key things you plan to achieve if elected?

1. Work with the Active Transport Advisory Committee to improve Council’s refreshed bike plan.

2. Advocate for biodiversity offsets to be made for proposed development and Council infrastructure upgrades.

3. Community Champions has made a tangible difference in the way that Councillor Kellie Darley has consistently made time to connect with the Community (not just in election lead ups) and been accountable to the Community in her conduct as a Councillor. If elected, I would like to amplify the work that Community Champions have started in including community members in decision-making and making information about Council matters more accessible to the public.

What about your long term vision for the area?

The Community Champions Team advocate for evidence-based decision making in local matters, I would like to contribute to the long-term strategy for community growth and wellbeing through my contribution to decision-making.
