Blak Markets Mothers Day celebrations 

The Blak Markets 8th birthday celebrations will kick off on Bare Island on Sunday 9 May with a special mothers day performance by First Nations star Mitch Tambo who will be launching his new single  ‘Dreamtime Princess’ at the Blak Markets to celebrate women and their achievements.

Mitch wants to use the song to let women in the Aboriginal community – particularly mums – know that they come from the oldest living continual culture on the planet.
“My mum was instrumental in shaping the man I am today. A proud Aboriginal woman, she showed me that there was – and is  so much more to women, their sacrifices and achievements. This helped me develop a deep respect for women.” The song also explores the theme of domestic violence and the threat towards women.
“Women have been disempowered for too long,” Mitch says.

CEO and co-founder of the Blak Markets, Peter Cooley, said it is exciting to be celebrating eight years of running the Blak Markets in such a unique destination with the largest line-up of stallholders.  “We’re really proud that the Blak Markets have proved to be a big success for both visitors to the Markets and our stallholders over such a long period,” Peter says. “Thanks to Randwick City Council for their support so far and I’m really proud to continue this partnership for the next three years to ensure this great Festival of Aboriginal culture continues.”

This Blak markets features  Aboriginal stallholders selling Arts, Crafts and bushfoods including Native Plants, award winning Jewellery and Pure Silk Scarves.”

The Blak Markets are conducted in partnership with Randwick City Council and are held in the NSW Parks and Wildlife Service, Kamay-Botany Bay National Park.
