Cressy Road Cottage is a place like no other, we’ve been part of the local community for more than 30 years! We are fortunate in occupying a massive half acre of land, with two homes, both of which raised Ryde families over a hundred years ago…and we’ve remained true to these roots: “It feels just like a home,” and “Wow, this garden is huge!” are the two most common reactions visitors have when they first step inside our very unique setting. And of course, the smells from the kitchen where all food is made onsite, has all our parents asking to stay for lunch!
The special qualities continue…beginning with our Nursery. Our Nursery team has ongoing training in Educaring(R), a practice that respects babies and results in a calm environment for our little ones to develop their agency and independence. This is achieved through strong, genuine relationships with their key caregiver.
As children grow older these relationships continue to prosper and whilst perhaps some new educators come into their lives, children still have contact with those they have known since beginning their journey into Early Education with us. Having several long-term team members we are always able to build a strong knowledge bank of each child to draw from as they grow up.
All our children are seen for the wonderful individuals that they are – by noticing the strengths in each child we encourage a positive self-image and convey to all children a sense of celebration of our differences.
At Cressy Road our curriculum decision making is grounded in solid research and credible theory; we recognise that for a child to be ready for school they do not need to practice the skills of a five year old at two years of age, instead they need to be in the moment and build on the skills and interests important to them and through this freedom children will develop strong building blocks for a successful entrance into school – we see this year after year with all of our children thriving from a truly play-based program.
