Best Local Vantage Points New for NYE 2017

posted in: Featured Events, Life | 0

New Year’s Eve celebrations may look a little different to the days BC (before children) but there’s still plenty of fun to be had. We’ve made a list of the best local vantage points to check out the fireworks. If you don’t have a picnic rug, now’s the time to buy one!

Clarkes Point Reserve, Woolwich

A family friendly vantage point with free buses running down most of the night. Bring a picnic. The Hunters Hill peninsula will be closed from 1pm so be sure to check out public transport options from Boronia Park.

Parramatta Park

Farewell 2017 at Parramatta’s ultimate end-of-year party, in the stunning grounds of the World Heritage-listed Parramatta Park. Enjoy a fantastic program across five activated areas for the whole family to enjoy and a spectacular display of fireworks at 9pm. The venue is very accessible by public transport, and there will also be some FREE parking.

Manns Point, Greenwich

A family-friendly site with views over Darling Harbour and Barangaroo but does have obstructed views of Sydney Harbour Bridge. While there is no BYO alcohol, it would be wise to BYO food and drink. There are toilets nearby.

Dunlop Reserve – Roseby St, Drummoyne

A lovely grassy area with some shade, an enclosed playground nearby and great harbour views. It’s close to Birkenhead Point and is an alcohol-free site.

Neild Park – Henley Marine Dr, Five Dock

A less busy option for NYE is Neild Park, Five Dock. Although you won’t be able to see the Harbour Bridge, you can see the city skyline all lit up. There is ample street parking, toilets nearby and play equipment to keep the kids entertained until the 9pm fireworks. Bring a picnic. This venue is an alcohol-free space.

Check out this website for more info on the following vantage points:

  • Birchgrove Park – Grove Street
  • Mort Bay Park – Cameron Street
  • Yurulbin Park – Loiusa Road

Balmain East

  • Elkington Park – Glassop Street

  • Lookes Avenue Reserve – Lookes Avenue
  • Thornton Park – Darling Street
  • Illoura Reserve – Darling Street

Top Ryde City Shopping Centre

Although not technically a vantage point, Top Ryde Shopping Centre is offering some great activities live throughout the Piazza from 5-9pm, including face painting, balloon bending, outdoor games, a magical magican and a kids disco. Check out the Piazza restaurant opening hours here.
