The North Shore Schools Expo

When: 3-4 August 2024, 10am-4pm

Details: Families on Sydney’s North Shore have access to many high-achieving schools, making the choice challenging. The North Shore Schools Expo at The Concourse in Chatswood on 3-4 August, from 10am-4pm, helps parents understand the strengths and differences of these excellent schools.

This free event features prestigious schools from Sydney and Canberra. Parents can meet staff and students from a diverse range of schools, including single-sex, co-ed, boarding, Montessori, Steiner, Catholic, Christian, and secular schools from preschool to Year 12. Discuss your child’s educational needs with principals and teaching staff to find the best fit for their learning style.

Independent schools have distinct educational approaches. Engaging with participating schools helps families understand their strengths and expectations, ensuring the ideal educational environment.

Exhibitors include boarding schools, faith-based and secular schools, and single-sex and co-ed establishments.

Live Site Olympics Screening

When: August 3rd from 5pm

Where: Top Ryde City Outdoor Piazza

Details: City of Ryde is hosting an evening of live streaming for the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics on the big screen! Join in from 5pm to enjoy dining at local restaurants, face painting, donut decorating, and the little Boomers ‘Shoot the Hoop’ activation. Limited heating will be available, so rug up and relax on one of the beanbags.

Live Site Olympics Screening

When: August 10th from 5pm

Where: Top Ryde City, Ryde

Details: Join another exciting evening at the Top Ryde City Outdoor Piazza to watch the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics live from 5pm. Enjoy face painting, donut decorating, and try your skills at the little Boomers ‘Shoot the Hoop’ activation. Don’t forget to dress warmly and settle into a cozy beanbag.

FREE Family Science Day @ Parramatta

When: Saturday, August 17th from 10am – 3pm

Where: Parramatta Square and PHIVE Library

Details: Are your kids budding scientists? On Saturday, August 17th, from 10am-3pm, enjoy a fun and educational day with free family-friendly science workshops and activities. Experience live robotics demonstrations, slime and lego workshops, and entertainment including liquid nitrogen explosions and 0-gravity hip-hop performances. Visit PHIVE Library for drop-in science activities and the Parramatta Town Hall to experience the sounds of space.

West Ryde Mini Trains – Sydney Live Steam Locomotive Society

When: Saturday, August 17th from 1pm – 4pm

Where: Corner of Anthony Rd and Betts St, West Ryde

Details: Great fun for all ages, the West Ryde Mini Trains operate every 3rd Saturday of the month from 1-4pm. Held at the original site since 1948, bookings are essential. Entry prices, including rides, are $6 for adults, $3 for children, and free for babies.

Cherry Blossom Festival at Auburn Botanic Gardens

Date: August 17th – 25th, 9am to 4:45pm daily

Location: Auburn Botanic Gardens

Details: Sydney’s most Instagrammable flower festival celebrates Hello Kitty’s 50th Birthday with performances, meet and greets, cultural shows, live music, kids’ activities, horticultural talks, and more. Enjoy Japanese food and drinks, and capture perfect ‘cherry snaps’ at the iconic Cherry Arbour.

Ferragosto Italian Street Festival

Date: Sunday, August 18th from 9.30am to 5pm

Location: Great North Road, Five Dock

Details: Sydney’s biggest Italian street festival returns for its 27th year, attracting more than 110,000 visitors to Five Dock, who come for the great food, great vibes, and great community spirit.

From 10am-5pm, enjoy delicious street eats, artisanal goods, dazzling performances, live music, entertainment, amusement rides, and competitions. The Ferragosto Procession starts at 9:30am.

Mudgee Wine + Food Festival

Date: Sunday, August 18th from 10am to 5pm

Location: Balmoral Beach Rotunda
