Great fun for young and old, the West Ryde Mini Trains are a local treasure. Held every 3rd Saturday of the month from 1-4pm, the Sydney Live Steam Locomotive Society is still located at the original site where it formed in 1948 – on the corner of Anthony Rd and Betts St behind West Ryde shopping centre.
Here you’ll find you can find 3 miniature train tracks with ride-on trains hauled by miniature steam locomotives. The park grounds are a popular location for children’s birthday parties or small group afternoon gatherings. For the enthusiast, the West Ryde Mini Trains is a great spot to just lie back and watch those steam trains work hard pulling heavily loaded passenger trains!
The grounds have limited seating and no tables, so if you are having a picnic consider bringing your own rugs, fold-up chairs and tables. The area is mostly well-grassed, and the shady spots are at a premium in summer!
Wet weather
There is no shelter in the event of rain but the trains usually still run even if the weather looks doubtful. However riding on wet seats isn’t particularly pleasant, so it is unlikely that all the trains will come out in anticipation that there will be fewer visitors. If you are having a party then a Plan B should be considered.
