Labor
Tell us a bit about you and your team. What’s your day job?
My name is Jerome Laxale, I’m the current and youngest ever Mayor of Ryde and Treasurer of Local Government New South Wales. I’ll be running with a diverse team that cares about Ryde. We are a team that cares about our environment, that cares about our parks and playgrounds and that are committed to working hard for you.
With 5 years under the belt as Mayor, I’ll be asking you for your vote again so our team can continue on with our vision for a fairer, cleaner and more liveable Ryde.
Joining me on my ticket is Charles Song, a lawyer with strong connections with Ryde’s Korean community. With a young family of his own, Charles cares about delivering for families, particularly in parks, playgrounds and open space.
Jananie grew up in Marsfield and is passionate about affordable housing, climate change, education and equality. Her career involves community organising, predominantly supporting and representing workers and if elected, would take that experience onto the City of Ryde.
Steve is the secretary of the Eastwood Chamber of Commerce and is passionate about local jobs and economic development. He wants to see our town centres vibrant, active and generating jobs.
What are some things you love about living in the area?

– Our amazing diversity and how we celebrate it.
– Our local town centres and how they all have something different to offer
– Our local economy, jobs for all ages and skill levels
– Our connection with nature, two rivers and national park, and some amazing green pockets.
What do you believe to be the 3 main issues affecting our community?
Local Infrastructure, Open Space, Traffic
What are the 3 key things you plan to achieve?
Town Centre Renewal (bars, restaurants, events), More affordable housing (building on the 20+ delivered this term), More upgrades to parks, playgrounds and open space
What about your long term vision for the area?
To develop Ryde into an inclusive and vibrant city, where town centres are a place of work and entertainment with more events, more live music and a real nightlife. To grow the amount of open space we have for our community, while continuing to deliver the world class playground upgrades we have been delivering this term.
