Early Learning World – Letterland Phonics Classes

Letterland is a unique, multi-sensory phonics program which has been teaching children aged 3.5—5 years valuable pre-reading skills for over 40 years. Phonics instruction is important because it teaches children how to decode letters into their respective sounds, a skill that is essential for them to read unfamiliar words by themselves. As most parents know, reading underpins achievement across the curriculum. Children who read accurately and confidently in the early years of school tend to have higher achievement in all areas.

Letterland’s interactive classes are 45 mins long and run for 9 weeks during the school term. In the first half of class your child will learn letters and their sounds. They will dress up, sing songs and become familiar with the fun, engaging Letterland characters such as Annie Apple and Clever Cat. In the second half your child will sit down to their own drawing and craft activity where they will practice letter formations, sounds and have fun pasting and colouring. Each term covers 13 letters and includes revision. Parental participation is not required.

Classes are held at 565 Mowbray Rd, Lane Cove. There is a café onsite so parents can relax with a coffee during the class, and a playground to keep younger siblings entertained. The West Chatswood Library has a great kids section and is right next door; street parking is also available.
