Paddock to Plate

True to its name, Orchard Early Learning Centre Ryde embraces a Paddock to Plate philosophy at the core of its curriculum. The centre is surrounded by extensive produce gardens and orchards, providing children with hands-on learning experiences about where their food comes from. The Ryde Centre is no exception, with mature fruit trees and a veggie patch where children can help grow and harvest fresh produce. The Kitchen Team then uses this produce to prepare five delicious, seasonally-based meals each day.

Menus, developed by executive chef Tawnya Bahr, are designed to nurture both body and mind, offering everything from pureed meals to seasonal whole foods and allergy alternatives. Orchard ELC works closely with families to ensure each child meets their eating and developmental milestones. You can read more about the chef here

RIE Philosophy

Orchard ELC’s approach to early learning is deeply rooted in Magda Gerber’s RIE philosophy, which emphasizes respectful practices and interactions. This philosophy is designed to create a calm and peaceful environment where children, particularly those under three, can build confidence and independence.

The centre’s environments and daily routines are planned to allow for uninterrupted play, enabling children to explore at their own pace and follow their interests. By fostering respect, trust, and acceptance, Orchard ELC helps children develop strong relationships and a strong sense of self, laying the foundation for lifelong growth and happiness.
