North Shore Private Maternity: Virtual Tour

posted in: Life, Parenting | 0

As many Ryde District Mums will know firsthand, North Shore Private Maternity at North Shore Private Hospital at St Leonard’s is a world-class, purpose-designed unit with the highest standards of comfort, facilities and qualified obstetric and midwifery team.

Birthing Suites

Birthing suites include a spacious bathroom with a large bath. Both the fetal heart rate monitoring equipment and Gas & Air are portable and waterproof meaning you can spend much of your labour in the bath or shower. Suites have an Apple docking station, essential oil diffuser, TV, WiFi, and lounge for mums and partners as well as specialised staff to monitor each case and manage a seamless environment.

NSP’s Well Baby nursery is equipped with baby bathing facilities, nappies, wraps and formula should you require it. The nursery provides a spacious area where staff are able to supervise you bathing your baby and where some of the education classes take place such as bathing, settling and discharge home talks.

The nursery is available for your use overnight if you choose. If your baby wakes for a feed, you will be phoned and asked to come to the nursery to collect your baby to feed. This ensures you are awake for the feed, which helps with correct attachment. If you have had a Caesarean section on the first night staff will bring the baby to you.

Special Care Nursery

The Special Care Nursery at North Shore Private Hospital is a Level 2 nursery that is able to provide care for babies born from 32 weeks. The Special Care Nursery Staff are all highly qualified registered nurses and midwives who specialise in the care of babies requiring extended specialist care. Six paediatricians are on staff, one of whom is on call twenty-four hours a day.

Lactation Consultant and Feeding

In addition to providing breastfeeding classes to all new parents on the ward, lactation consultants are available should you require additional support breastfeeding your baby. Further support is available after you leave the hospital should you require it.

Helping Hands, Mother and Baby Support

This service is for newborns to 12-month-olds. The service offers support and guidance with a lactation consultant and Mothercraft Nurse. The service covers:

  • Infant feeding
  • Sleep and settling
  • Adjusting to a new family
  • Understanding premature babies
  • Changing behaviours
  • Multiple births
  • Routines and rhythms
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Returning to work
  • Travelling with a baby
