If you’re looking for a family-friendly winter night out that doesn’t involve heading into the city, Lightfields at The Vineyard is worth adding to your list.
Running nightly until the end of August, this illuminated lantern experience in Sydney’s north-west is much more than just a walk-through light display. With glowing lanterns, giant illuminated sculptures, a silent disco, carnival games, a huge playground and plenty of food options, it’s easy to turn your visit into a full evening out with the kids.
More Than Just a Lantern Walk
The highlight of Lightfields is the collection of more than 70 illuminated lanterns and glowing displays spread throughout the grounds. As darkness falls, the colourful installations come to life, creating a fun and vibrant atmosphere that’s perfect for families.
There are plenty of opportunities to stop, explore and snap a few photos along the way, with giant glowing characters and displays around every corner.
We spent around 45 minutes exploring the installation itself, but you could easily stay longer thanks to everything else on offer.

Make a Whole Evening of It
The Vineyard is already a popular destination for families, and Lightfields makes it even easier to enjoy a relaxed night out.
The on-site bistro has loads of indoor and outdoor seating, so you can arrive early for dinner before exploring the lantern trail. The playground is also a great way for kids to burn off some energy before the lights come on.
We suggest arriving from 4pm to let the kids have a play, grabbing dinner, and then wandering through Lightfields as the displays begin to glow.
