Wangal Reserve, Mortlake

Wangal Reserve in Mortlake, which opened in December 2020, is an absolutely fantastic playground. This $1.7 million project provides an abundance of inclusive playspace, creative detail and wonderful play opportunity in a beautiful natural setting. By car, the trip is approximately 15-20mins but if you’re looking for Parent-of-the-year award, why not visit via car ferry! Also known as the Putney Punt, this FREE 5 minute trip across the river is the only remaining punt in Sydney so is well worth a go. Here’s more info on the Putney Punt.

Set upon the Parramatta River, Wangal Reserve is the latest public greenspace upgraded by City of Canada Bay. The upgrade provides:

  • a new nature-themed playground
  • toilets
  • replacement jetty
  • beach access
  • accessible pathways
  • new plantings
  • upgraded picnic facilities
  • a renewed barbeque
  • Indigenous-inspired artworks
While the playground is surrounded by plenty of mature trees, it can still get quite hot in summer – so much so that Council have put up signage warning that the metal equipment can get very hot. Luckily there is a water play area amongst loads of other awesome and exploratory play equipment. Play equipment includes:|
  • timber bridge
  • waterplay on a dry creek bed
  • carved timber totem poles
  • a timber and rope agility course
  • flying fox
  • large timber swing
  • accessible carousel
  • a timber boat
  • balance beams
  • log steppers and stilt walk
  • and more!

Getting There

Wangal Reserve is located at 38A Hilly St, Mortlake. There is a dedicated park area as well as street parking.
