The Brickpit Ring Walk & Wentworth Common Playground, Sydney Olympic Park

If you’re looking for a fun morning out with kids that combines adventure, nature and a seriously good playground, this Sydney Olympic Park combo is SUCH a good one. The Brickpit Ring Walk and Wentworth Common Playground sit right across the road from each other, making it super easy to do both in one outing.

You’ve got an elevated adventure walk, wildlife spotting, parkour-style play equipment, water play, swings, climbing, scooter paths and loads of green space all in the one spot. And with free parking, toilets, bubblers and cafés nearby, it’s an easy family win.

The Brickpit Ring Walk

📍 Bennelong Parkway, Sydney Olympic Park
🚶 550m elevated loop walk
🛝 Pram-friendly
🐸 Learn about the famous Green and Golden Bell Frogs

The Brickpit Ring Walk is one of the most unique family walks we’ve done in Sydney. The giant elevated circular walkway loops 550 metres above protected wetlands and gives you incredible views across the old Brickpit below. The walk itself is completely flat and pram-friendly, making it ideal for younger kids too.

The site was once used for large-scale brickmaking before becoming one of Sydney’s most important protected frog habitats.

What makes this place especially interesting is the story behind it. During preparations for the Sydney Olympics, the discovery of endangered Green and Golden Bell Frogs stopped development in the area and helped transform it into the protected habitat it is today. There are educational signs along the walk explaining the history, wildlife and environment, but honestly kids mostly love peering over the edges spotting birds, water and the enormous wetlands below.

The walkway itself feels almost futuristic and very different to your standard family walk.

Wentworth Common Playground

📍 Marjorie Jackson Parkway, Sydney Olympic Park
🛝 Playground with climbing, flying fox, swings and water play
🚲 Great for scooters and bikes
🌳 Huge open green space and picnic areas

Right across the road is Wentworth Common Playground and this playground is seriously good for active kids. With a really natural feel, the playground combines climbing, balancing, rope obstacles and nature-style play with loads of space to explore.

You’ll find:

  • parkour-style climbing
  • rope obstacles
  • swings
  • slides
  • a flying fox
  • water play
  • climbing towers
  • sand and nature play
  • huge open grass areas

Older kids especially seem to love the unique rope climbing features and obstacle elements.

There are also fantastic bike and scooter paths surrounding the playground, so definitely bring scooters or bikes if you can.

One of the best things about this area is how spacious it feels. Even when busy, families can spread out across the huge parklands and picnic areas.

Why We Love This Combo

This outing works so well because it’s easy, low-stress and suits a wide range of ages.

You can:

  • do the Ring Walk first then reward kids with the playground
  • bring scooters or bikes
  • pack a picnic
  • stop for coffee nearby
  • let kids burn energy without needing a huge day trip

It’s also:

  • pram-friendly
  • mostly flat walking
  • ideal for school holidays or weekends
  • easy to access from Ryde
  • great for mixed age groups

And the 2 hours free parking nearby makes it even easier.

Getting There

The Brickpit Ring Walk and Wentworth Common Playground are located at 8 Bennelong Parkway, Sydney Olympic Park. You’ll find 2 hours free parking near both areas however the parking areas are very close to each other and easy to walk between.
