After a major $1.55 million upgrade—and a longer-than-expected wait—Kilpack Park’s brand-new playground has officially opened in Carlingford!

Surrounded by towering gum trees and native landscaping, the revitalised park features an impressive treehouse-style climbing tower, a huge embankment slide, nature play, swings and plenty of open grass for running around.

A Climber’s Dream

The showpiece of the new playground is the huge multi-level climbing tower, complete with a little treehouse at the top and an enormous slide back down.

There are several challenging ways to reach the top, including climbing nets and other skill-based elements. In our opinion, the main tower is best suited to confident climbers and older primary school children, although there are other play options for younger visitors.

The wider playground offers something for children of different ages, but younger children may need help or close supervision on the larger tower.

More Than a Playground

Kilpack Park is now much more than a playground. The wider park upgrade includes a new outdoor gym, widened and upgraded pathways, improved lighting, modern barbecue facilities and extensive landscaping—creating a welcoming place for people of all ages to play, exercise and spend time outdoors.

Parents can make use of the fitness equipment while the kids play, while the wide pathways are suitable for prams and can also be enjoyed by children riding bikes and scooters. As the pathways are shared, children should keep an eye out for pedestrians.

Existing Blue Gum trees were protected throughout the upgrade, while additional native plants and moisture-loving grasses have been added around the park.

Kilpack Park is a lovely spot with a shaded picnic shelter, upgraded barbecue facilities, tables, seating and a drinking-water fountain.

There are also expansive grassy areas where children can run around, kick a ball or spread out a picnic rug.

There are no public toilets at Kilpack Park, so plan ahead, particularly if you’re visiting with younger children. Carlingford Court is approximately 350 metres away.

Getting There

Kilpack Park is located at 28 Darwin Street, Carlingford. Street parking is available on Darwin Street and Ross Street, with pathways connecting the different park entrances.
