Set along the Cooks River, Ewen Park Hurlstone Park has a lot to offer. This recently upgraded space combines a large playground, bike track, skate park and open green space, and it’s also right at the start of Sydney’s Greenway, a 6km pram and bike-friendly walking route.
It’s an easy spot to turn a quick park visit into a longer walk, ride or full morning out.
A Playground For All Ages
The play space is well set up for a wide age range, which makes it a good option if you’ve got multiple kids.
There’s a big hero play tower with a giant slide (plus a smaller one for younger kids), plenty of climbing elements, and lots of space for imaginative play.
You’ll also find:
- Swings, including toddler and basket swings
- A seesaw and balancing logs
- Musical play elements
- A dedicated toddler area with interactive features
One of the standout features is the kids’ bike and scooter track beside the playground with stop signs, roundabouts and a ‘repair station’. Note that the Cooks River is adjacent to the playground without a fence in between.
Right on the Greenway
One of the biggest drawcards here is the location. Ewen Park sits at the start of the Greenway, a growing 6km shared path that’s ideal for prams, scooters and bikes.
Just note: there’s a short section along the footpath before you connect to the off-road path — but once you’re on it, it’s smooth, easy and very family-friendly.
More Than Just a Playground
This is one of those parks where kids of all ages can spread out and do their own thing.
Alongside the playground, you’ve got:
- A skate park for older kids and teens
- Large sports fields for kicking a ball
- Riverside walking and cycling paths
- Plenty of open space to run around
Easy Spot for a Picnic
If you’re planning to stay a while, it’s well set up for it.
- Picnic tables and shelters
- BBQ facilities
- Grassy areas for a rug
- Plenty of seating
There are also extra trees and pathways, which means more shade and easier access with prams.
Getting There
Located at Tennent Parade, Ashbury, there’s plenty of street parking nearby (paid and unpaid). There’s also direct access to the Greenway.
