Bridget Kennedy, Community Independent – Central Ward Lane Cove

What is your name, political party and electorate?

Bridget Kennedy, Community Independent – Central Ward Lane Cove

Tell us about your background both personally and professionally

I’m seeking re-election because I’m passionate about serving our community. With over 20 years in Lane Cove, I’ve co-founded The Sydney Library of Things, which oversees the Lane Cove Toy Library, and have been a founding member of the Repair Cafe Sydney North since 2016. I was named Lane Cove Citizen of the Year in 2018. I bring financial management skills and entrepreneurial creativity to my initiatives, with a background as a jewellery artist, business owner, and early IT industry experience in banking and finance.

What are some things you love about your electorate?

I love our bushland and waterways. It can feel like no-one is around you, yet we are 15 minutes from the city. I love our village atmosphere and sense of community. We’ve some great restaurants and a terrific library!

What do you believe are the 3 main issues affecting your electorate and why?

  1. Ensuring local public transport options are reliable and connect with each other. Lack of reliable and regular bus services and the recent changes to accommodate the Metro has resulted in our community feel disconnected.
  2. Protecting bushland habitats and waterways from the impacts of development and stormwater
  3. Improving transparency and accountability in council decision-making

What are the 3 key things you plan to achieve if elected?

  1. Supporting sustainable transport options, including a community shuttle bus.
  2. Ensuring fair access to public facilities, including more residential access to the Aquatic Centre and discounted fees for residents
  3. Champion projects to encourage waste-to-resource and reduce landfill, such as food and garden organics (FOGO) recycling and a program of children’s clothing swaps.

What about your long term vision for the area?

A resilient, healthy and connected community of people who respect each other and are proud of where they live, in an area that is a leader in sustainability initiatives.
