A huge new park expansion has officially opened in Zetland, and it’s seriously impressive. Gunyama Park Playground adds an extra 6,300 square metres of green space next to the existing Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre, with the City of Sydney describing it as the biggest, most custom playground they’ve ever made.

The new space includes giant climbing structures, slides, water play, a skate park, open lawns, picnic areas, and barbecue facilities, making it the kind of destination where you could easily spend an entire day with the kids.

A Playground for All Ages

One of the best things about Gunyama Park is that it caters to a really wide age range, which isn’t always the case with playgrounds around Sydney.

Little kids have their own dedicated play areas, while older kids can tackle the bigger climbing structures, slides, and adventure equipment. There’s also a skate park tucked into the north-west corner of the park, giving tweens and teens somewhere of their own to hang out and ride.

The main feature is the enormous 60m tunnel with tower and climbing structures, which spans most of the playground. There are slides, rope climbs, twists and turns, and elevated play areas that encourage adventurous play and keep kids busy for ages.

There are also interactive water features for kids tincuding pumps and directional valves.

This isn’t just a quick “stop for a slide” type of playground — it’s the kind of place you could easily spend half a day. The park includes:

Getting There

Gunyama Park is located at 17 Zetland Avenue, Zetland. There’s limited street parking nearby, so public transport can be easier during busy times. Green Square Station is also relatively close to the park.
