The Australian National Maritime Museum at Darling Harbour is running a huge Winter School Holidays program from 5th – 19th July 2026, with hands-on activities, exhibitions and interactive experiences for kids of all ages.

One of the major highlights is the new Vikings exhibition featuring the famous Galloway Hoard — a collection of rare Viking-age treasures discovered in Scotland.

Kids can also enjoy a range of drop-in activities included with museum entry, including:

• Bricktropolis LEGO® Village, where children can build Viking longboats, sea monsters and contribute to a giant collaborative LEGO mural (ages 4–14)
• Kids on Deck maker space with artmaking, experiments and hands-on creative activities
• Deep Sea Screenings showing real underwater footage from deep-sea expeditions
• Cabinet of Curiosities featuring touchable objects and fascinating maritime specimens
• Museum Treasures Activity Trail to guide kids through the museum in an interactive way
• Access to historic vessels, including the HMAS Vampire destroyer, a real submarine and the Endeavour replica

Special events during the holidays include a free NAIDOC Open Day on Sunday 5 July featuring cultural performances, workshops, tours and activities celebrating this year’s theme, “50 Years of Deadly”.

Teens aged 12–16 can also book into a Viking-inspired jewellery workshop on 9 July, where participants will tour the exhibition before creating their own brass, copper or aluminium jewellery piece.

The museum offers a mix of indoor and outdoor experiences, making it a great option for both sunny and rainy winter days.
