10 Shopping Centres with Free Play Areas

Shopping centre play areas can be a lifesaver on days when it’s hot, raining or if you need an incentive to get the kids to the shops! Here’s the scoop on all our local shopping centre play areas.

 

Macquarie Centre

Cnr Herring and Waterloo Roads, North Ryde

Macquarie Centre has two soft play equipment areas – the newest (opened late 2017) is located on Level 1 outside Target, where you will find lots of kids stores and a few cafes close by. It is suited for kids 1-5 year of age. The other is located on Level 4 outside The Loft Cafe and is also suitable for young kids.

Westfield Chatswood

1 Anderson St, Chatswood

Find this Urban Escape Playground on level 3, just near Din Tai Fung. Inspired by nature and the outdoors the space creates fun for all ages. With soft play, tree house and a slide it has been designed for kids between 1-8 years. It is also fully fenced and even has wireless charging stations for your phone. Read more here.

Rhodes Waterside

1 Rider Boulevard, Rhodes

This play structure recently had an upgrade (mid-2017) and now features slides, a climbing tower, a maze, soft play and more. It certainly packs a lot into a little space! Best for 2-8-year-olds. Read more here!

Top Ryde City Shopping Centre

Corner Devlin Street and Blaxland Road, Ryde

There are quite a few kids play areas at TRC. Firstly, the Piazza does a pretty solid job of keeping kids entertained, often through meal times as it is surrounded by cafes and restaurants. The other play areas are on level 1 near Toy Mate. There are 3 sections to the area – an interactive zone with books, screen and colouring, a climbing zone with a rock climbing wall, multiple slides, rope ladder and tunnel. Then there is a separate soft fall play area perfect for little kids.

Carlingford Court Shopping Centre

Corner Pennant Hills Rd & Carlingford Rd, Carlingford

Although small, this little play area offers enough to give parents a bit of respite while resting in the nearby chairs. You’ll find this play area on level 1 opposite to Bing Lee, and it’s perfect for kids 0-4. They can play noughts & crosses and use the interactive play panels to move little cars, coloured beads, building bolts & more!

Bunnings Warehouse

Between the playground, kids’ trolleys, cafe and craft activities on weekends and school holidays, Bunnings knows how to keep families happy! Rydalmere, Lidcombe and Artarmon are the closest centres.

Rydalmere

Chatswood Chase

Level 2, 345 Victoria Avenue, Chatswood

This little play area is very beautiful looking but will probably only provide you and your little one with a short rest stop. Features include a wooden train to sit on and a cubby house with iPads. A fence has recently been added around the area.

DFO Homebush

3-5 Underwood Rd, Homebush

A neat and modern structure with plenty to keep kids busy. What you save on entertainment you can spend on clothes! Best suited for kids aged 2-7.

HomeHQ, Artarmon

Corner of Frederick Street & Reserve Road, Artarmon

On the lower ground floor near Dare Gallery and By Dezignyou will find a fairly sizeable pirate ship climbing gym that the kids will just love. It is recommended for children aged 2-6 years.

North Rocks Shopping Centre

328-336 North Rocks Road, North Rocks

This little play area recently (late 2017) underwent an upgrade and features a play gym maze. It’s located right next to Pronto Cafe and is great for kids 0-4.
