Recently, Fit Kidz Putney asked us to come in for a visit so they could proudly show off their service, which they consider to be of the highest standard in Childcare.
Established in 2004, Fit Kidz is a family owned and operated business of 8 Early Learning Centres around Sydney. With the Putney location having just celebrated their 5th birthday, they were keen to share with us the things about it that their families love the most.
The outdoor space at Fitz Kidz is undeniably impressive! It’s not only huge but it is also fun-filled and extremely functional. Play equipment is plentiful and includes:
- water play
- a giant slide
- netted suspension bridge
- massive sandpit
- balance beams
- fairy garden
- trike paths and more
Most impressively, the area is home to
- a worm farm
- composting bins
- rainwater tank
- outdoor tables for craft and eating
Fit Kidz explained that sustainability is something they put great value on and build into their learning program. For example:
- each day children sort their own food scraps for the different destinations (chickens, compost or worms)
- children also collect chicken eggs daily and take them to the kitchen for use by the in-house chef
- children tend to the huge veggie patch, often collecting their harvest and cooking with it or giving it to the in-house chef to cook with
- each month the centre hosts Garden Club which is for kids and parents alike
Children are split across two rooms at Fit Kidz – one for “Cheeky Monkeys”, ages 2 – 3.5 years and the other for “Leaping Leopards” aged 3.5 – school age.
Leaping Leopards who will be attending school the following year will participate in an exclusive school readiness program called Be School Ready™, designed by Fit Kidz in conjunction with qualified teachers and in consultation with each of the local schools
The Be School Ready™ program runs weekly throughout the year, during which children use specially designed workbooks and learn Maths, English, Science and Social Science concepts through hands-on experiences, group discussions and workbooks play.
All the children at the centre also participate in daily art, music, exercise, cooking and computer programs, led by the children’s interests and skill base.
Fit Kidz staff pride themselves on building strong relationships with not only the children in their care but also the families. Staff say their aim is to get to know each and every family which helps children feel secure and comfortable, and that they work hard at fostering connections so that the centre feels like home.
Fit Kidz has a strong connection with the local community, one such example being with the adjoining Rehabilitation facility. The long term patients of the facility often visit Fit Kidz, assisted by their carers, and vice versa, Fit Kidz children often visit and tend to their vegetable garden and sing carols for them at Christmas. Children also enjoy visits from local dentists, ambulance services, local police, even parents who come in to help with cooking, art and other activities for the kids.
