Fitness, or at least exercise, is a huge topic of conversation in the Ryde District Mums Facebook chat group. On our recent visit to Fernwood Ryde, we discovered that it ticks LOADS of boxes that are important to mums.

Although the gym is called Fernwood Ryde, some would argue that it located in Meadowbank! Located on Belmore Street, you can access the gym from street level or via their free underground parking with lift access for their members (entry via Porter St).

Extended Operating Hours

Fernwood have recently changed their open hours and are now open 5am to midnight EVERY SINGLE DAY OF THE YEAR! They do have a receptionist on duty the majority of hours, 7 days a week, however outside these times you can enter via fob system. They have a full security system, and being a women-only gym, members report feeling super confident going in at the wee hours of the morning before the kids are awake!

Children’s Crèche

This is music to a mother’s ears! Knowing you can give your all to a workout while your kids are cared for by the lovely Fernwood team is all a mum could really hope for, don’t you think? Booking can be done online and the cost is $5 per hour. The current promotion on offer is  $300 for 100 vouchers (hours) or $200 for 50 vouchers (hours).

The crèche opening hours are as follows:

  • Monday, Wednesday & Friday 8:30 – 11:30am (3 Sessions)
  • Tuesday & Thursday 9:30 -11:30 am (2 Sessions)
  • Tuesday & Thursday 4:30 -6:30 pm (2 Sessions)
  • Saturday 8:00 am-12:00 pm (4 Sessions)

Awesome Classes

Fernwood offer an awesome variety of classes that are run by qualified and motivating instructors – 7 days a week. From spin to boxing, or Les Mills classes such as Body Pump, Body Attack, Yoga, Pilates and more, there’s plenty to keep you interesting and engaged!

As well as that, you can work out on the gym floor which has just been updated with the very latest equipment such as treadmills, bikes, free weights, machine weights, ropes and more.

FITT30 Classes

FITT30 is an awesome optional extra if you love working out in a group environment and but need that motivation from a Personal Trainer.

As the name suggests, it’s a 30-minute class and while it might be short, it’s intense, working your whole body! It’s suitable for all fitness levels, with sessions taken by a qualified Personal Trainer and done in groups of 6-10. If you’re short on time or love the HIIT style classes, FITT30 is perfect for you.

FITT30 is a paid program ($20 extra on weekly membership fees), however, we’ve secured a deal on that…! Read more below.

Lovely Extras

Fernwood Ryde has all the creature comforts you would expect from a top Gym, from free breakfast to all the toiletries a woman would need such as hair straighteners, hair spray and more. Of course, you will also find lockers, showers and a break room where you can browse through fitness magazines and rest for a minute.

On-Site Women’s Physio

An amazing feature that Fernwood Ryde offers is a on-site physio who specialises in women’s health. Katarina completely understands the physical problems unique to women and is available to talk all things pain, posture, incontinence, pelvic issues, pregnancy-related problems, postnatal rehabilitation, prolapse and pessary prescription.

This is super handy for tying in your gym session with a visit to the physio, all while bub is in the creche!

Katrina will be running mums and bubs classes soon too, which is sure to be a favourite.
