Are you part of or have you been part of a political party? If so, which one?

The Greens

Tell us a bit about you and your team. What’s your day job?

I’m a mum of two kids, one of whom finishes school next year and the other is at uni. I moved to the area when I was a newly-married 24 years old and haven’t got any intention of moving any time soon! I started work as a high school teacher, then moved into editing and worked for the Department of Education. I then started my own freelance business and also worked in state parliament and for a federal Senator.

My team and I all live locally. We want to give back to the communities we love by looking after where we live. supports me on this journey.

What are some things you love about living in the area?

In no particular order:
– the fact that I can see Powerful owls in the bush nearby
– the way my kids have always been able to walk to and from public transport and feel safe.
– the small businesses that give this area its character and its heart
– that way I can be amongst the trees and feel a. million miles away from anywhere in ten minutes. That was particularly special during lockdown when I was feeling pretty claustrophobic.

What do you believe to be the 3 main issues affecting our community?

  1. Overdevelopment
  2. Inadequate public transport and traffic congestion
  3. Lack of affordable housing

What are the 3 key things you plan to achieve?

  1. More safe, reliable and frequent public transport services, especially buses.
  2. Masterplanned development that actually enhances where we live rather than develop-driven planning
  3. More recreational facilities for older kids

What about your long term vision for the area?

I want Hornsby Shire to have thriving local businesses, opportunities for people to work from home but find co-working spaces nearby; to have town centres that are cool, shady and attractive places to meet friends, find essential services and shop. I want better educational opportunities locally like a co-ed high school in Hornsby. I want to make sure we generate local jobs so people can work near where they live, and I want out young people to have more opportunities to have fun with friends and get some exercise with more MTB facilities, pump tracks and adventure playgrounds in Hornsby Shire.

Other Comments

To me it’s all about the kids. It’s about keeping this beautiful Bushland Shire in good shape for my kids, and for your kids, and for their kids. Over the last four years as a councillor, I’ve proven just how hard I’ll work to protect it. As mayor of Hornsby Shire, I look forward to being able to work for my community full time. A neighbourhood this good is worth fighting for.
