Priscilla Yu, John Ellul, Peter Zarro
Are you part or have you been part of a political party? If so, which one?
Tell us a bit about you and your team? What’s your day job?
I arrived in Australia with my family as an 8 year old, I grew up with the Australian and Chinese cultures together. I speak Cantonese, Mandarin & English fluently. I am a Father to 2 young boys (Cooper 4, Alistair 7). I’ve lived and worked in the Ryde area for over 15 years. I have been doing a lot of volunteer work for the Eastwood Chinese Senior Association and Eastwood Lunar New Year Committee (while i am also keen to adding other entertaining events to the Ryde area). I was also involved in Clean Up Australia, helping out the Korean Senior Clean Up Eastwood Campaign. I was nominated for Volunteer of The Year for Ryde Council in 2017. I was encouraged to do more for the community as a result. From being able to speak these 3 languages fluently, while also understanding and respecting both cultures. It was felt that I can do so much more for our multicultural local community than just doing volunteer work. I also don’t believe in Political Parties at local community level, it should all be about Local issues & not party issues. This is the reason i chose to stand as an Independent Candidate.
My day time job is called a “Buyer’s Agent”. I help people find their new homes, because they are very busy, and want to have a buffer between them and the seller/agents. My job is to help save them time and money. The second candidate, Priscilla Yu is a self employed lady, who has an accounting background, but she is also embarking further studies to better herself in other fields. Our 3rd candidate is John Ellul, he’s a retired seaman, who is very level headed and also wants to contribute to a more vibrant and inclusive society. Our 4th candidate is Peter Zarro, he’s self employed, has a carpet cleaning business and supports me on this journey.
What are some things you love about living in the area?
The mixed nationalities, it’s the absolute center of Sydney, being 15 minutes away from all the surrounding areas (eg, Parramatta, Sydney, Chatswood, Hurstville)
What do you believe to be the 3 main issues affecting our community?
- Road safety
- Recreational facilities
What are the 3 key things you plan to achieve?
- Safer traffic managements
- Better parking solutions,
- Safer & cleaner recreational facilities (especially parks & playgrounds around Ryde)
What about your long term vision for the area?
Safer roads for parents to drop off & pick up their kids from schools, safer and more efficient traffic management, creating bigger, cleaner & safer recreational facilities, creating better parking facilities for locals especially. I feel Ryde has a very modern library, but I feel Eastwood really do need to create a new library for servicing today’s needs. A much more inclusive community as a whole. Better footpaths in each street, for better pram movements. Kids are our future, we need to invest in them for them to be the very best they can be.
How do you plan to influence state policy that impacts on our community?
I will advocate on behalf of the community to the State MP on important issues and have Council work productively with State Government. Being independent, I have the advantage of working with what ever Government is in State Government at the time, I can still work with them.
