Ghostly and Ghoulish Crafting With Little People

We love a bit of craft in our house. These craft ideas have been inspired by Halloween and were lots of fun to prepare!

Ghostly Treats

Materials

  • Lollipops
  • Tissues
  • Rubber bands
  • Black pen

Instructions

Take a lollipop and wrap it in a tissue with the sweet part in the centre of the tissue and the stick pointing down. Tie a rubber band around the tissue and lollipop, just under the sweet part. Draw on two eyes and a mouth with a black pen. So easy and a different treat for the trick or treaters knocking on your door!

Variations

Googly eyes would look great and you can always tie the ribbon around instead of a rubber band.

Ghost Hand Card

Materials

  • Coloured paper or card
  • Pens
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • A hand to draw around!

Instructions

On white paper, draw around your child’s hand to create the main part of the ghost. Complete the head by rounding off the gap between the start and finish of the outline. Get your child to add eyes and an open mouth with a black pen.

Cut out the hand and glue onto a coloured card or paper background. We added ‘Boo’ to the card too, just to make it really scary!

Variations

You could make this into a picture, use different textures for the hand outline or even stick the ghosts onto lolly sticks to create puppets.

String Mummies

Materials

  • Cardboard
  • Coloured paper
  • String or white yarn
  • Googly eyes
  • Scissors
  • Sticky tape
  • Glue
  • Pen
  • Gingerbread man cookie cutter

Instructions
On the paper, draw around the gingerbread man cutter. Add googly eyes and then cut out. Stick the man onto the cardboard and again cut out. Tape the end of the string or yarn to the back of the man and begin to wrap it around the body shape in a random pattern. When you are happy, cut the string and stick the end to the back.

Variations
A black paper background would look awesome but my son wanted to use coloured paper instead. You could easily make these into puppets by adding a lolly stick, bunting or some other type of hanging decoration too.

Witches Face

Materials

  • Coloured paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Pens
  • Any spare craft materials you can find!

Instructions

Depending on the ability of your child/children to use scissors you can either:

  1. Show your child a picture of a witch or the final pictures in this section; or
  2. Cut out each of the elements that make up the witch’s face and let your child glue them on.

Our witch’s faces had a round face (I drew around a plastic bowl for this), hat, wild hair, pointy nose, eyes and mouth. I let the children decide upon the colours of the various items but certainly, green faces and black hats work well!

Variations

Instead of paper hair, my daughter chose to give her witch some green packing material hair – anything goes really in terms of colour, material and style choices! Let your child’s (or your) imagination run wild!
