Choosing the right school for your child is one of the biggest decisions you will make on behalf of your child and we seem flooded with information these days: HSC and NAPLAN results; glossy brochures; social media; whizbang websites and the like.
Mrs Jo Hutchens, Director of Advancement at ARDEN Anglican School suggests “there is no substitute for visiting a school Open Day and taking a good walk around the campus on a normal school day”. She goes on to encourage parents to make the time to attend an Open Day explaining “don’t just take a tour with friendly enrolments staff because we all have them, but rather really look, listen and talk with staff, ask questions of students, walk around a class in progress and capture the culture of the school”.
This year, Arden Anglican School has a unique opportunity for prospective parents to view both their Primary Campus (Beecroft) and Secondary Campus (Epping) on the same day. Principal Mr Anderson explained “This opportunity will be a great day where parents can gain a real insight into Arden and how we operate on both sites. Our students will be the tour guides and they love to show guests around our beautiful school of which they are so proud.”
Arden will charter a double-decker bus to take guests between Beecroft and Epping and explained this is especially important for those considering enrolment from the Primary years. “We want families to come and see the school as many times as they need to in order to feel fully informed and make the best choice for their children,” added Mrs Hutchens.
Mrs Hutchens lists her top five tips for parents thinking about the right school for their children as:
1. Start the process early so that you don’t miss out on your school of first choice
2. Always tour when the school is in action
3. Base your decision on all the information – not just a results snapshot or a good tour guide
4. Partake in the hospitality and listen to the conversations, and the music!
5. Don’t decide on the day. Think about the school that best matches your child and family values.
