Taste of Rhodes: Festival of Food 9th – 22nd April

Taste of Rhodes: Festival of Food 9th – 22nd April
16/04/2018 @ All Day

Rhodes Waterside is holding a two-week festival of food and the whole family (and their taste buds) are invited! Celebrate all things food at Rhodes Waterside with amazing food deals, exclusive dining experiences and events, free giveaways plus the chance to have Justine Schofield cook dinner for you and 10 friends!

From 9 to 22 April, be inspired by new experiences, family time and seriously cheap eats. See in centre for a pop-up picnic zone, the perfect place to chill out and munch on the yummiest of snacks. Visit the GIANT lolly jar and guess the exact amount of lollies in the jar and you could take the whole thing home! Spend $10 at any food retailer and present your valid receipt at the Customer Service Desk to redeem a FREE Australian Gourmet Traveller Magazine.

For the little ones, head to Gozleme King for a free Nutella Gozleme workshop. Make your own delicious Nutella Gozleme filled with the freshest ingredients, watch as it is cooked right in front of you and gobble it all up! Then, head to Lilly’s Espresso e Cucina and make your very own pizza. Rhodes Waterside has also opened its doors to the community, inviting five lucky groups to open a pop up ‘Lil’ Shop’! Purchase a cookie and make your contribution to much-needed fundraising for Out & About Baby for PANDA, We All Care, Team Georgia for The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Ku-Ring-Gai Stealers Baseball League Inc and Victoria Avenue Public Walking School.

For the big kids, bring your stomachs and enter the dumpling dash. Enter (if you dare) to see if you can eat 20 dumplings in the fastest time to win a $50 Rhodes Waterside Gift Card. Celebrate the greatest combination in the world and join the pizza and beer appreciation society, where $10 bucks will you get a beer tasting paddle and unlimited pizza all night! Check out kombucha taste testing from The Source Bulk Foods and pop stalls all across the festival.

During April you can help put food on the plates of those in need. Simply post a pic of the meal you purchased at Rhodes Waterside on Instagram with the hashtag #tasteofgiving and we will donate a meal to someone in need through Foodbank, Australia’s largest hunger relief organisation.

To help those in need, donate to our Taste of Rhodes partner Foodbank. Donate to our Food Drive and help us support vulnerable families by donating non-perishable items. Your donations will go to people in need who are struggling to put food on the table tonight. To donate or hear more about their stories, visit our ‘Faces of Hunger’ photo exhibition, located near Coles.

Bop till you Drop run Performing Arts Workshops in the April School Holidays. Our workshops are designed for children aged 5-12years. These programs are educational with professional teachers who will gently encourage and teach your child new skills in DANCING, SINGING, ACTING, plus craft, cooking and science to break up the action-packed day.

There are 6 classes per day, each class runs for 45 minutes. This program is aimed at building self-esteem in your child. We allow them to be part of the creative process rather than dictating our ideas. This helps build their self-confidence and makes them feel proud of their achievements. The children will perform in a concert on the last day to show off their new talents and they will also be awarded a graduation certificate. The concert is an important part to building confidence and their public speaking skills. Also we want them to walk away with a big sense of satisfaction knowing they worked towards something and accomplished it.

Adult Glee Club - Weekly Singing Group, GORDON

Adult Glee Club - Weekly Singing Group, GORDON
17/04/2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Do you enjoy singing? Or are you interested in trying a new activity that sees you do more than just shower singing and carpool karaoke?

Come and join this growing group of diverse adults who come together to sing various well-known songs while having a good time. Our Gordon based Adult Glee Club has mums from the Ryde and Northern Districts areas participating, and we’re always on the look out for new members to join our weekly singing group. Expect to sing anything from pop to rock, musical theatre, golden oldies and event the odd current hit.

There’s no auditions, no experience needed. Just a willingness to give it a try and have a good time while doing so. It’s so healthy for the body and mind to sing regularly and lowers stress levels and anxiety. The people are welcoming and if you’ve never sung in a choir or group before, don’t be scared. Our choir directors are very welcoming and will ensure you improve over time (even if you think you can’t).

About Angelina Bonifacio

During the School Holidays, Angelina offers cooking classes for all ages from 5 to 12 years that are hands on and interactive. She is a parent herself and now grandmother.

Realising the need to teach children,  the next generation, a life skill, she commenced small hands on classes. Classes are held in a casual and fun and safe atmosphere in her modern home. These classes are enjoyed by all!

Angelina comes from an Italian background and is passionate about her traditions and culture handed down to her by her migrant parents.

Angelina has worked in business world but has always come back to her passion of food.  Working part-time in café’s and restaurants and a home baking business.  Her skills were taught to her by her own mother from a young age.

The recipes taught are authentic southern and Italian meals, desserts and biscuits. Some of them come straight from her handwritten recipe book of her late mothers own regional  receipes.  Angelina believes every receipe has a story and it should be told, eg, where did pizza come from?  What are the traditional Italian herbs used.  Where did the origin of homemade pasta come from?  What are the specialty dishes of the  regions of Italy.  Seasonal cooking and why.

The dining table is the heart of a home and brings family and friends together. She hopes that her students will enjoy cooking for years to come and celebrate, food, family and friends in their own homes.

Her lessons include take home receipes that the children can impress their own families with at the same time, practicing the skill and art of cooking and confidence with ingredients.

Her greatest pleasure is to hear parents feedback that their children are confident junior chefs and want to cook on the weekends for the family or that they aspire to be chefs and own their own restaurant one day.
