Paddy's Night Food Markets, Flemington

Paddy's Night Food Markets, Flemington
03/03/2018 @ 6:30 pm - 10:30 pm

One of Sydney’s best fresh food markets, Paddy’s Markets in Flemington, is taking its show into the night, bringing together some of the city’s best food trucks for a new weekly night food market. Starting July 1, the massive car park venue will be transformed into a bustling eatery for street food lovers every Saturday night from 6.30–10.30pm.

Over 25 of Sydney’s veteran and up-and-comers in the food truck scene will converge on the car park, including Chur Burger, Kayter Co., Maverick Wings and Dirty Bird. Sit at one of the converted crate tables and tuck into delights such as gelato brioche, chocolate gözleme and soda served out of lightbulbs. Menus will change regularly to match a monthly theme, so you can constantly change it up — even if you visit the same food vendor.

Entry is free — as are the retro arcade games, including Daytona and Pac-Man — and there will be regular live music by resident DJ Mike Hyper and special guests. Free parking is also available on-site.

Dairy Precinct Tour, Parramatta Park

Dairy Precinct Tour, Parramatta Park
10/03/2018 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Parramatta Heritage and Visitor Information Centre, in conjunction with Parramatta Park Trust, runs regular guided tours of the Dairy Precinct on the second Saturday of each month at 11am and 12pm, and by appointment. Tours cost $12 and must be purchased through Eventbrite.

This is your chance to uncover and explore one of Australia’s oldest buildings. Take an exclusive and private tour at the Dairy Precinct in Parramatta Park and uncover the fascinating stories and historical, social and architectural importance to Australia.

Shortly after the arrival of colonists in 1788, the Europeans recognised the fertile site’s potential for growing crops to feed the starving colony.

Built in 1796, the Dairy Cottage was home to George Salter, an ex-convict turned cattleman. It later became part of Governor Macquarie’s Domain, now on the World Heritage list.

In the early 1800s, the cottage was enlarged and converted to a dairy with a sunken milk-processing room constructed alongside. The milk room still remains today and can be viewed beneath the adjacent Ranger’s Cottage.

You will be able to see Parramatta Park story unfold in a brand-new audio-visual exhibition inside these two important historic buildings.

It’s a fascinating glimpse into our colonial past and Parramatta’s significant Aboriginal history.

Due to the historic nature of The Dairy Precinct and fragile nature of the buildings, entry to the cottages is limited to small groups of no more than 15 at a time. There are also uneven surfaces inside the cottages and surrounding gardens, paths and entries that may cause trips, slips or falls.

A number of areas in the Dairy Precinct have limited accessibility. If you have special access requirements, please contact the Parramatta Heritage and Visitor Information Centre on 02 8839 3311.

The Society for Preservation of the Artifacts of Surgery & Medicine consists entirely of members and volunteers with an interest in history of and the preservation of moveable heritage items and memorabilia from both the hospital and non-hospital sectors of nursing and medicine.

The collection began as a teaching collection within the Department of Anaesthetics at the then Lidcombe Hospital and it grew over time to include many other items no longer used in the practice of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, pathology, general practice, surgery and anaesthesia.

As the collection grew larger and a group of volunteers became established it was decided to create an organisation that would provide protection for the collection and ensure its preservation.

Display includes old suture materials ‚a kangaroo tendon, silkworm gut, black silk, catgut and many others materials no longer in use.

For all the details, visit the SPASM Museum website
