One freezing Sunday morning recently we lured the kids out of the house with the promise of a cosy café breakfast and set off for the new The Dining & Co café nestled off Wicks Rd in North Ryde. We’d heard a lot about it so, drawn by claims of good food, good coffee and a family friendly atmosphere we tried it out and it didn’t disappoint.

Miss 4 and Miss 2 were thrilled to find not only toys there but also the ultimate in kiddy heaven – child sized chocolate milkshakes. I know, yes, for breakfast. What can I say? Hubby and I haven’t read a newspaper for four years and wanted to make use of the selection of newspapers and magazines provided.

Although there isn’t a separate kids breakfast menu they are well catered for with the main menu having all the classics as well as some more adventurous fare for Mum and Dad. The scrambled eggs on sourdough were creamy and delicious, while hubby was in a trance while enjoying the Shakshuka: breakfast trend de jour.

Miss 2 made her mark (on herself, the table, her sister….) with Nutella on sourdough toast while the slightly more sophisticated Miss 4 had a golden, flakey ham and cheese croissant which was pronounced “awesome”.

Fortunately for my nerves there are plastic plates and utensils available for children. The interior is stylish and having bathrooms onsite and parking directly out the front are definitely advantages with little ones. Importantly, it’s not too pricey.

We’ll definitely be back, next time to test out the lunchtime menu.
