11 Rainy Day Activities Around Ryde

Don’t worry, there is plenty to do when the rain sets in. Here’s our list of things to keep you busy in the Ryde area while still keeping (relatively) dry!

1. Indoor Play Centres

2. Free Shopping Centre Play Areas

Top Ryde Shopping Centre, Rhodes, Chatswood Chase, DFO Homebush and Macquarie Shopping Centre all have play areas where kiddies can kill an hour while mums get their caffeine fix.

3. Lunch and a Play

4. Enjoy Indoor Swimming

Ryde, Homebush, West Pymble, Lane Cove and Ashfield all have Indoor swimming pools for kids – see all the details in this comprehensive write up.

5. Visit the Library

Join Rhyme Time or Story Time at West Ryde, North Ryde, Ryde, Eastwood or Gladesville Library. Days and times are available here.

6. Go Bowling

Strike Bowling Macquarie Centre has 10 world-class bowling lanes, a Laser Tag arena, private karaoke rooms plus escape rooms! For 2 games, adults are $26 and kids are $20

Zone Bowling Top Ryde is part of Timezone and includes 12 lanes of bowling, 140+ arcade games, prize shop, laser tag arena, Spin Zone bumper cars plus café & bar with plenty of seating. For 2 games, adults are $22.90 and kids are $21.90

7. Get Your Ice Skates On

Macquarie Ice Rink is fun for kids of all ages, with varying entry prices between $18 and $27 depending on the time of day and which day you attend. The entry fee includes skate hire and locker hire is $5.

For a bit of a back story, the rink opened in 1981 but nearly got sent to the scrap heap in 2018 until the community successfully petitioned to save it! Read more here.

8. Visit a Playgroup

9. Catch a Movie

Why not use a Dine & Discover Voucher on a movie with the kids at Reading Cinema RhodesEvent Cinemas Macquarie or Event Cinemas Top Ryde.

10. Head to the City!

Feeling adventurous? Grab your brolly or your raincoat and head into our awesome city. Between WILD LIFE  Sydney Zoo,  Maritime MuseumPowerhouse MuseumSEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, and Madame Tussauds, Darling Harbour is packed full of child-friendly options. You could also try the Australian Museum, Sydney Tower Eye or The Art Gallery of NSW.

11. Stay home

Make a cubby house out of dining chairs and a sheet, bake cookies or, make our 5-minute no-cook playdough or try any one of these awesome ideas.

Having said all that, snuggles on the couch and some TV is sometimes the best rainy day activity of all.
